I had a wonderful stay at Heritance Kandalama. It is a truly beautiful hotel surrounded by nature and designed in a very unique architectural style. The interior design and the overall architecture create a peaceful and calming atmosphere that makes the stay feel very special.
The room and bathroom were very clean and well maintained, and the facilities provided in the hotel are excellent. One of the most memorable parts of the stay was the stunning views from the room and other areas of the hotel. Especially during sunset, the view from the room and even from the bathroom was absolutely unforgettable.
The swimming pool is another highlight, adding a special charm to the hotel with its beautiful surroundings. We stayed at the hotel for two days and received very friendly and professional service from the staff throughout our stay.
The food was also excellent, especially the breakfast and dinner buffets, which had a wide variety of delicious options.
Overall, staying at this hotel feels like being surrounded by the natural jungle environment of Sri Lanka, making it a unique and relaxing experience.
One small note: if you plan to use the swimming pool in the evening, be aware that the water can feel slightly warm because it absorbs heat from the sun during the day.
Overall, it was a great experience and a memorable stay, and i would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

A Masterpiece of Tropical Modernism
I had an incredible stay at Heritance Kandalama. The way Geoffrey Bawa designed the hotel to disappear into the cliffside and integrate with the surrounding nature is truly breathtaking. The location offers stunning views and a serene atmosphere that you won't find anywhere else.
The buffet was a highlight—the variety of food was impressive and everything tasted excellent. My only suggestion would be regarding the rooms; while they are comfortable, some of the fixtures and facilities feel a bit dated. A bit of modernization in the rooms would bring them up to the world-class standard of the rest of the property. Overall, a must-visit for any architecture or nature lover.

Beautiful architecture and a unique jungle setting. We stayed here as a family in early March and loved the spacious, clean rooms and the relaxing vibe. The buffet was fantastic—definitely the highlight of the trip, especially the desserts! The staff were also very friendly and the pools were pristine.
However, the hotel is definitely showing its age. For the price they charge, the value isn't quite there compared to newer luxury options. There also isn't much to do on-site, and despite being next to the lake, you can't actually access it for boat rides. Great for a quiet night, but perhaps not the best "luxury" value for money anymore.

I think it’s the flagship hotel in the whole of the cultural triangle in Sri Lanka. The rooms are so beautifully blended to the nature. The food is the BEST in Sri Lanka. Their breakfast and dinner buffets were by far the best and tastiest. Authentic Sri Lankan and also other cuisine. I think the service needs more attention, sometimes it feels like too many staff doing not enough to engage with guests. Such a beautiful hotel has lost its plot with the swimming pools. Nothing much happening around the pools for guests wanting to have a good relaxation time by the pool with cocktails etc. overall fantastic stay. We did the sigiriya rock, the elephant Safari which were great, but somehow felt the hotel staff had no idea about what we did during our stay. I booked directly on your website, I booked two suites, it was a horrible experience completing the booking. Few days later I got an email to say my booking is cancelled although the hotel staff kept saying they could see my booking confirmed. The hotel staff seem to have least control over bookings made on the direct website. I would have thought the hotel treats those who book directly with special perks, especially when you book high category rooms such as suites.

Exceptional location of hotel that just melts into the environment. The natural surrounds are the feature and the hotel provides high quality service without drowning out the setting. In the hotel service and food were very good. The rooms provide uninterrupted views of the lake framed by the trees. An unique experience.
